Dear families,

As the cool and wet spring weather warms into the promise of a bright and re-energizing summer, I want to take a moment to thank all students, staff, and families for another successful school year. The school year has ended for most of our students, with only Kanaka Creek Elementary remaining in session until July 26. For students registered in summer learning, classes will begin after the Canada Day long weekend, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. (more…)

Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows students receive funds for post-secondary needs study

June 18, 2022 2:18 PM

The Province is providing $250,000 to conduct a needs assessment of post-secondary education and skills training in the rapidly growing communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

“Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows are two of the fastest-growing communities in the Lower Mainland,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Training. “This needs assessment is the first step to understand whether students in the area have access to the educational and training opportunities that are needed for them to thrive and be prepared for the economy of the future.”

Kwantlen Polytechnic University will work in collaboration with other public post-secondary institutions with nearby campuses, including Douglas College, the Justice Institute of British Columbia, and University of the Fraser Valley, to conduct an objective and informed assessment of the post-secondary education needs of the residents of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

This provincial funding is part of the Province’s co-ordinated approach to address immediate and long-term workforce challenges across all sectors of the economy. The Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training is developing a Future Ready Skills Plan that will help equip British Columbians with the knowledge and skills they require for the jobs of the future.

Changes to Provincial Covid-19 Communicable Guidelines for K-12 Settings

April 21, 2022 10:30 AM

Dear families,

On March 11, 2022, I provided you with an update on the changes made to Provincial COVID-19 Communicable Disease Guidelines for K-12 Settings. Since that time, the guidelines have been further revised to incorporate public health guidance from the BC Centre for Disease Control.

The most significant changes include the following:

  1. Health Awareness: We are now transitioning from the daily health check to the more general approach of health awareness. Health awareness includes checking regularly for any symptoms of illness (including but not limited to Covid-19 symptoms), and staying home when sick (including if one is unable to participate fully in regular activities due to symptoms of illness).
  2. Events and Gatherings: Events and gatherings can return to 100% capacity.

You can review the updated document in full here.

Sincerely,

Harry Dhillon
Superintendent of Schools

March 27, 2022: Federal travel guidance mask requirement

March 27, 2022 2:04 PM

Dear parent/guardian,

Further to the March 11, 2022, message from the superintendent, this is a reminder that those who have travelled outside of Canada must follow federal travel guidance upon their return. Importantly, this now includes wearing a well-constructed and well-fitting mask when in public spaces (including schools), both indoors and outdoors, for 14 days following entry into Canada. You can find additional information on the Government of Canada website.

For anyone who has not travelled outside of Canada, masks are a personal choice in schools.
