The Interdisciplinary Arts (IA) Academy at Garibaldi Secondary is a professional training program that provides students with hands-on, immersive learning through the production of a theatrical performance, including a full-scale Broadway musical.
Students can participate as cast members performing onstage, crew members working with lighting and sound equipment, or backstage hands.
Admission to the IA Academy is based on an audition for cast and application for crew. Once the cast list has been finalized, successful candidates will be contacted with a role offer. Students receive their scripts in May and learn their lines over summer break. Rehearsals begin on the first day of school.
IA Academy students can earn credits for Musical Theatre, Theatre Company, Theatre Production, Directing and Scriptwriting, Dance Choreography, and Contemporary Music.
