As we prepare for the new school year, we are sharing an update on parking, student drop-off and pick-up, and site access at Pitt Meadows Secondary. Phase 1 of the project (early works and site preparation) is underway in advance of construction of the new school, which is expected to begin in late fall.
Following a review of the parking and access arrangements for the site, we can now confirm the measures that will be in place at the start of the school year, including limited on-site parking for students through a parking pass system.
These arrangements are intended to support safe and efficient access to the school while helping to manage traffic and parking impacts on the surrounding community.
Student Parking
A limited number of on-site parking spaces will be available to students through a parking pass system.
Students who wish to park on site must register their vehicle at the school office and obtain a parking pass, which must be displayed on the dashboard. Students with a parking pass may park in the main staff/student parking lot on the west side of the school, as shown in the map below.
The smaller parking area immediately in front of the school is reserved for office staff and authorized visitors and is not available for student or parent parking.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Student drop-off and pick-up is not permitted in the staff/student parking lot. Keeping drop-off and pick-up traffic out of the lot during peak periods will help maintain safe pedestrian access and allow vehicles using the lot to enter and exit safely.
Families may use the designated pull-through drop-off loop at the east end of the school, as shown in the map below. This area is for active loading and unloading only and is not available for student parking.
Where possible, families are also encouraged to arrange drop-off and pick-up locations away from the immediate school site to help reduce congestion along 116B Avenue.
Pedestrian Access
Students approaching the school from the south may use Parkside Trail from 115A Avenue to access the school. Please remain on designated pedestrian routes and stay outside fenced work areas.
Traffic Around the School
Students, families and neighbouring residents should expect increased traffic and some delays around the school during peak arrival and dismissal periods. Please allow additional travel time and be mindful of construction activity, temporary fencing, changing traffic patterns and posted directional signage. Watch carefully for pedestrians, cyclists, construction vehicles, and other traffic around the school site.
Looking Ahead
Site conditions will continue to evolve as early works progress and construction of the new school gets underway later this fall. We will continue to monitor parking, traffic and pedestrian access, and will provide updates as site conditions or access routes change.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we prepare for construction of the new Pitt Meadows Secondary.
