Sept. 2, 2026: Eric Langton Elementary Back-to-School Site Update

September 2, 2026

With the start of the new school approaching, we are sharing an update on the new Eric Langton Elementary school, current site conditions (including the demolition zone), and important information about pedestrian access, parking, and student pick-up and drop-off on this site.

The New School

The new Eric Langton Elementary school building is complete, beautiful, and ready to receive students and staff. The child care space in the new building has now received its license, and on Tuesday, September 8, children currently attending the child care program in the portable will move into the new space.

Demolition Zone

Demolition of the old school facility is now underway and is being carried out methodically, with safety as the top priority. The demolition zone is secured behind fencing and is shown in red on the map below. Demolition and civil works are expected to be completed late fall 2026.

Pedestrian Access

Pedestrian access to the school is available from Edge Street, 227th Street, and the path from Hinch Crescent. Please use caution when approaching the site, as it remains an active construction area. Edge Street in particular continues to be used by heavy vehicles accessing both neighbouring construction projects and the demolition zone.

Student Pick-up and Drop-off

Pick-up and drop-off for Eric Langton Elementary and Maple Ridge Child Care Society is available in the new circular drop-off area accessed from 227th Street (shown in blue on map), or along 227th Street itself.

Please note that there is no parking or drop-off available on Edge Street until further notice.

Staff Parking

  • Eric Langton Elementary Staff: Parking for Eric Langton Elementary staff is available in the new temporary lot accessed from 227th Street.
  • ci:tməxw Environmental Community Staff: ci:tməxw Environmental Community staff can use the James Best Centre parking lot, which is reserved for their use.

Playgrounds

The playground west of the new school has been refurbished and is now open. The playground south of the school is open and available for use.

Field

Construction of the synthetic field is expected to begin in early 2027. Project description and status updates are available on the City of Maple Ridge website at https://www.mapleridge.ca/your-government/city-projects/eric-langton-elementary-synthetic-field.
