Certification of the new building for student occupancy is now expected to occur at end of the school term, which means that Eric Langton students will move into the new building at the start of the new school year on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Here is what to expect between now and September.
The move and the old building
Construction now is focused on the outside of the new building, including sidewalks, curbs, paving, and landscaping. Starting the week of June 15, resources and equipment will begin to be moved from the old school to the new facility. Once the move is complete, the old school building will be prepared for demolition, beginning with the careful removal of asbestos-containing materials, which is a standard step for buildings this age.
West side pathway and playground
The northwest corner of the site, including the pathway to 122nd Avenue, will remain closed until roughly the end of July. Some of the playground equipment in that area couldn’t be salvaged for reuse, so we’ve ordered replacements; we expect that playground to reopen by the end of August. In the meantime, the southwest playground remains open to the public.
Parking
We anticipate that the Edge Street parking lot will be closed from mid-July through to the end of November while the old building is demolished and a new lot and drop-off area are built. A temporary lot will be available off 227th Street during the closure.
We will continue to share updates as they become available.
