August 29, 2025: Eric Langton Replacement Project Update – School Site and Traffic Impacts

August 29, 2025

Construction Progress

Work on the school site has advanced well over the summer. The structural steel and roofing are complete, and the building is expected to be water-tight by the end of September. Mechanical and electrical installations are in progress on both levels, and interior finishing work is underway (drywall, priming, flooring, and millwork). Off-site civil works on 121st Avenue and Edge Street are largely complete, and on-site civil works around the north and west parking areas are scheduled to finish by the end of September. In addition, the private residential development next to the school has begun underground utility work on Edge Street, expected to continue through October

Temporary Traffic and Parking Changes

Because of ongoing civil works and underground utility work on Edge Street, the school site and surrounding streets will experience significant congestion over the next several weeks. Families have been asked to plan for delays during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Local residents should also expect heavier traffic volumes and intermittent delays on surrounding streets, particularly Edge Street and 227th Street.

The following temporary measures are in place (see map):

  • Lot is closed: Most of the school’s parking lot will be closed for September (marked in red).
  • Family parking: Parking on 227th Street has been converted to a pick-up/drop-off zone with a 1-hour parking limit (marked in yellow).
  • No family parking on site: There is no available parking for families anywhere on school grounds.
  • Staff parking only: A limited number of spaces are reserved for staff (permit required) in the reduced lot on Edge Street and by James Best (marked in orange). Unauthorized vehicles in these spaces may be fined or towed.
  • Drop-off zone: A temporary drop-off/pick-up zone has been established through the school lot on Edge Street (marked in light blue). Flaggers will be on site directing traffic. Vehicles must keep moving – no idling, no waiting, no parking.
  • Pedestrian access path: A temporary path is available from 227th Street to the school (marked in dark blue).

What Residents Can Expect

Traffic flow around Eric Langton Elementary will be altered for the next several weeks, particularly during school start and dismissal times. Flaggers will be stationed on Edge Street to help keep vehicles moving, but congestion is expected. Residents in the area may wish to plan extra travel time when entering or leaving their neighbourhood during peak hours.
