2018 Leaders of Tomorrow: Olivia Torgerson – Fairview

During the 2017/18 school year, Olivia was a Grade 7 student at Fairview Elementary. Olivia always has a smile on her face and an unfailing positive attitude contagious to everyone around her.

Olivia is a wonderful role model with an incredibly kind heart who has a strong presence throughout the classroom and our school. In class, she will work with, sit with, or help any of her classmates while making them feel comfortable and more willing to participate. She actively looks for ways she can lend a helping hand and is always the first to volunteer for anything that is needed. Once a week Olivia helps set up the computers in the computer lab for one of our kindergarten classes. She is also an office monitor and kindergarten lunch monitor, and does morning announcements.

Being an athlete, Olivia has been a part of our school volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams. She demonstrates strong leadership qualities and encourages her teammates to do their best. Olivia is also an integral part of our school’s leadership group where she has helped with school assemblies, spirit days, a bake sale, walk for water, and packing the backpacks for the Starfish program in our district.

Outside of school, Olivia is an active participant of her soccer team and has volunteered serving food with the Salvation Army. She enjoys spending time with friends and family and dreams of one day owning a pet pig.

About Leaders of Tomorrow

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.

The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2017/18 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2018 Leaders of Tomorrow.
