Explore student creativity at Thomas Haney Secondary’s annual Arts Gala on May 21, featuring more than 200 pieces of student artwork, food prepared by culinary arts students, and live music performances.
The event begins at 5 p.m. in the rotunda, where culinary arts students will present a variety of finger foods.
“I’m always impressed by how much care they put into their work, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for guests to taste the results while celebrating their efforts,” said Rebecca Mang, art teacher and event organizer.
After sampling the food, attendees can explore the visual arts exhibition, which extends from the rotunda down the hall into the art wing.
“The gala offers a unique opportunity to experience the perspectives and voices of our students,” Mang said. “Through painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, students express their ideas, emotions, and experiences in ways that inspire conversation and understanding. Each piece tells a story that reflects personal journeys and beliefs.”
Students in the music program will set the tone for the event, with live performances throughout the evening.
Admission is by cash donation at the main entrance, and all proceeds go directly back into supporting the arts programs.
“We would love for people to attend this event because it is a meaningful way to connect with and support our young artists who bring vibrancy and insight to our schools and community,” Mang said. “For many young artists, showcasing their work publicly is both exciting and vulnerable. Your presence sends a powerful message: their creativity matters, their effort is valued, and their voices deserve to be seen and heard.”
