Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows schools raise thousands during Terry Fox Run

Schools across Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows held runs, threw pies, and had fun while raising money for cancer research during the Terry Fox Run last month.

At c̓əsqənelə Elementary, students raised enough money to throw pies at their principal and several other teachers. Another teacher was duct taped to a pole.

“We raised last year over $7,000 and we are trying for $8,000 this year,” said Jonathan Wheatley, principal at c̓əsqənelə, while wearing a purple wig and giant sunglasses.

Albion Elementary broke its fundraising goal of $2,500, while students at Laity View Elementary hauled in just over $1,000 and Highland Park Elementary students raised $703. Eric Langton’s Toonies for Terry campaign raised $474, Pitt Meadows Secondary raised $1,052, and students at Garibaldi Secondary raised more than $2,200.
