Blue Mountain Elementary teacher-librarian Amanda Terris recommends Books Make Good Friends by Jane Mount.
In Books Make Good Friends, author-illustrator Jane Mount introduces us to Lotti, a shy girl who finds comfort in the world of books. While her classmates play loudly at recess and her family chats energetically at dinner, Lotti prefers quiet moments curled up with a good story.
As the story unfolds, Lotti’s love of reading becomes a bridge to connection. She discovers that sharing books can lead to sharing real-life friendships.
I also love this book because Lotti and I kind of look alike and she reminds me of myself in elementary school.
This book promotes reading for pleasure and personal growth, encourages independent exploration of books, and supports reluctant readers by showing how stories can be safe and empowering.
It also encourages students to see libraries as places of discovery, imagination, and friendship.
Books Make Good Friends is available in SD42 libraries.
