#FridayReads: Drop everything and read Our Incredible Library Book

Blue Mountain Elementary teacher-librarian Amanda Terris recommends Our Incredible Library Book (and the Wonderful Journeys It Took) by Caroline Crowe for DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) and BC School Library Day on October 26.

Our Incredible Library Book (and the Wonderful Journeys It Took) by Caroline Crowe tells the story of a single library book and the many children who borrow and enjoy it over time.

As the book travels from one reader to another, it is read in different places and shared in many ways, such as during bedtime stories with family, on camping trips, or while relaxing at home. Along the way, the book becomes worn with creases, stains, and torn pages, but each mark represents a special memory and a child who has found adventure, comfort, excitement, or escape in its pages.

The story is told from the unique perspective of the library book, helping children see books in a new and imaginative way. For example, one child may read the book while recovering from illness and find comfort in the story, while another may enjoy it with a parent and create a special family memory.

The colourful illustrations and engaging rhyming text make the journey enjoyable to follow while highlighting important themes including a love of reading, the value of libraries, sharing with others, and caring for community resources. This makes the book an inspiring and meaningful read for primary school children, showing how one book can connect and positively impact many different readers.

Our Incredible Library Book (and the Wonderful Journeys It Took) is available in SD42 libraries.
