#FridayReads: Celebrate Ramadan with Once Upon an Eid

Pitt Meadows Secondary student Dewa Qarar recommends Once Upon an Eid: Stories of Hope and Joy by 15 Muslim Voices edited by S.K. Ali and Aisha Saeed for Ramadan and Eid.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is observed by Muslims around the world. The Eid holiday marks the end of Ramadan.

I recommend Once Upon an Eid, edited by S.K. Ali and Aisha Saeed. I chose this book because it includes 15 short stories written by 15 Muslim authors. Some of the stories are set during Ramadan and Eid and highlight family traditions.

Diverse books are important because they represent different experiences and remind us that everyone belongs.

I read this book at Highland Park Elementary with Ms. Kitamura, and it helped me feel more included in the school community and more confident sharing my culture with others. This experience motivated me to support Highland Park’s first World Culture Day because I believe that there is space for everyone’s brilliance and excellence.

Once Upon an Eid is available in SD42 libraries.
