Joint community consultation for the potential new Albion School and community centre begins on February 10

January 27, 2016

Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows School District and the City of Maple Ridge will kick off a joint community consultation with a public workshop on Wednesday, February 10 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Albion Elementary. This workshop will explore ideas for a potential new school housing a neighbourhood learning centre and a potential community centre for the fast growing Albion neighbourhood of Maple Ridge.

“We are excited to have this important opportunity to work with the City of Maple Ridge and our community on defining a vision for a Neighbourhood Centre in Albion. We have known for a while that there is a need for a new school in the area, and are pleased to invite the community to envision what that new school, a neighbourhood learning centre, and a potential community centre may look like.” said Mike Murray, School Board Chairperson. “The School District and the City of Maple Ridge have a long history of working together to maximize the taxpayers’ investment in schools, park spaces and other facilities. Our collaboration on this project will once again ensure that we maximize the value of publicly funded facilities for our community”.

“The Albion neighbourhood is one of the fastest growing areas of the region and we are very proud to join with our colleagues on the Board of Education to work together to move from advocacy to public engagement around the development of a new school and community centre for our citizens,” said Maple Ridge mayor Nicole Read. “This is the ideal collaboration and reflects the shared vision of Council and the Board of Education around creating a special place for the citizens of this neighbourhood. Once approved, this project will represent a significant investment by the BC Government, and by partnering with the School District we can leverage the strengths of both organizations to deliver amazing community facilities. We all look forward to hearing the ideas of people in our community around the vision they have for this project.”

The community consultation process will begin with the February 10 workshop hosted at Albion Elementary. For further information about the process please visit http://www.sd42.ca/yourvoice42.
