Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District No. 42 students showcased their talents during the Skills BC regional competition hosted at Westview Secondary on Feb. 16.

During the day-long event, students from the Central Lower Mainland region competed in the Automotive Service (secondary) and Cabinetmaking (secondary) categories.

When it came time to hand out the medals, SD42 students had earned the top three spots in both.

“I look forward to this competition each year,” said WSS instructor Andy Strothotte. “Regardless of who earns the gold and who doesn’t, they are all winners for being here, trying and gaining the experience. I am proud of each of the students who competed.”

Greg Erho, instructor of the Automotive Service Technician program at WSS, added: “It was a very busy day with students writing a 50-question test and making their way through six troubleshooting stations. It was a fun and challenging day for the students.”

Gold medal winners qualify to compete in the annual Skills BC Provincial Competition in April.
