UPDATED: City of Maple Ridge Information Bulletin: Synthetic Turf Field Infill Replacement

July 7, 2025 12:55 PM

Updated on August 28, 2025

The City of Maple Ridge has adjusted the schedule for the synthetic turf field infill replacement projects. Please see the revised dates for the temporary field closures below.

Synthetic Turf Field Infill Replacement

The synthetic turf infill (small green plastic pellets between the grass blades) for the fields at Telosky Stadium, Golden Ears Elementary School, and Samuel Robertson Technical School will be replaced.

The infill replacement work will take approximately 3-4 weeks per field and is dependent on weather conditions. The start date of each project can also be impacted by the duration of other infill replacement projects in the region.

Current Schedule (as of August 21, 2025):

  • Samuel Robertson Technical Field: Start date August 21, 2025 (duration: 3-4 weeks)
  • Morningstar field (Telosky 2) – closest to the skate park: Start date approx. mid-September 2025 (duration: 3-4 weeks)
  • Polygon field (Telosky 1): Anticipated start date July 2026
  • Golden Ears Field: Start date July 2026

This work has been scheduled to minimize disruption to our sports field users. The City appreciates the cooperation of our community sports groups as their field allocation schedules have been adjusted to accommodate this work.  Please sign up for the sports field alerts at MapleRidge.ca/Alert for detailed closure dates.

During the closures, Karina LeBlanc Field, Westview Secondary’s synthetic turf field, and all City grass fields will remain open for public use and scheduled sports activities.

We thank you for your patience during this time.

June 19, 2025 2:37 PM

Registration for students eligible for school district transportation for the 2025/26 school year is open until 4:00 pm on June 27, 2025.

Regular student transportation is available for eligible students living and attending school in the following school catchments:

  • Blue Mountain Elementary
  • Garibaldi Secondary (who are not residing in Silver Valley / Rockridge area*)
  • Highland Park Elementary
  • Pitt Meadows Secondary
  • Webster’s Corners Elementary
  • Whonnock Elementary

* As part of the 2025/26 budget approved on April 30, 2025, the Board of Education discontinued the bus routes serving Garibaldi Secondary students in the Silver Valley and Rockridge areas due to financial pressures, low ridership, and the availability of public transit alternatives. To support the anticipated increase in student use of public transit, the school district has worked with Coast Mountain Bus Company to enhance service. Coast Mountain has confirmed there is sufficient capacity on routes 741, 733, and 701, with additional afternoon trips being added on routes 741 and 733. Transfer times at Haney Place will be coordinated to support student connections, and ridership will be monitored to determine if further adjustments are needed.

Eligible students for regular student transportation are defined as:

  • Resident primary students (grades K-3) and their siblings attending the same school who live farther than 4 kilometers from their catchment area school;
  • All other resident students (grades 4-12) who live farther than 4.8 kilometers from their catchment area school.

Eligibility for transportation for students with disabilities and diverse abilities is based on criteria set out in Policy 5400 on the school district website.

To register for regular student transportation or transportation for students with disabilities or diverse abilities, please click on the announcement titled Student Transportation 2025/2026 – Registration. The registration deadline is 4 p.m., June 27, 2025

Fraser Health: What you need to know and do about measles

June 2, 2025 10:27 AM

Please see the message below from Fraser Health:

As your Public Health and Preventive Medicine Doctors at Fraser Health, we are concerned about measles in Fraser region. Measles is a highly infectious and serious disease caused by a virus. It can lead to complications like pneumonia, encephalitis (swelling of the brain) and even death. We hope the information in this letter will help keep families protected from measles.

Measles cases are being reported across Canada now. The risk of measles infection and disease transmission is high among those not immune to measles.

To protect yourself, your family, and your community from measles infections and outbreaks, we recommend you take following steps within the next few weeks:

1. Know measles signs and symptoms:

  • Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, and red and inflamed eyes, followed by a rash. The rash usually starts first on the face and neck, and spreads to the chest, arms and legs. It lasts about 4 to 7 days.

2. Check your family’s vaccination records and update your vaccinations as needed.

3. Get vaccinated against measles:

4. Stay home when sick:

If your children have symptoms of measles, please keep them home. Please avoid sending the children to schools, to group activities, classes or parties and other social events, while they are symptomatic. This will protect your friends and families, other school children and staff, as well as members of public.

  • If you need to seek healthcare and are worried you or your children may have measles, please call ahead. This allows clinics and hospitals to put in measures to limit the risk of spreading measles to other patients and staff.

We work to keep our communities safe and healthy. Let us work together to prevent an outbreak that affects our schools and communities.

Sincerely,

Medical Health Officers at Fraser Health

Registration for Student Transportation 2025/26

May 14, 2025 1:28 PM

Read the latest update: REMINDER: Registration for Student Transportation 2025/26

Registration for students eligible for school district transportation for the 2025/26 school year is now open and will close at 4:00 pm on June 27, 2025.

Regular student transportation is available for eligible students living and attending school in the following school catchments:

  • Blue Mountain Elementary
  • Garibaldi Secondary (who are not residing in Silver Valley / Rockridge area*)
  • Highland Park Elementary
  • Pitt Meadows Secondary
  • Webster’s Corners Elementary
  • Whonnock Elementary

*As part of the 2025/26 budget process, the Board of Education made the decision to discontinue the routes serving Garibaldi Secondary students living in the Silver Valley and Rockridge areas. This decision was driven by escalating financial pressures and the need to focus limited resources on core educational services. In making this decision, the board also considered low ridership on the routes, the availability of public transit, and recent infrastructure improvements in the affected areas (e.g., sidewalks, lighting, and crosswalks). Coast Mountain Bus Company has indicated that they have the ability to adjust service levels and timing in the area to better align with school schedules. If Coast Mountain is unable to increase service levels, the district will explore a full cost recovery model that could allow for the reinstatement of one or both routes, with fees set to fully cover the cost of the service.

Eligible students for regular student transportation are defined as:

  • Resident primary students (grades K-3) and their siblings attending the same school who live farther than 4 kilometers from their catchment area school;
  • All other resident students (grades 4-12) who live farther than 4.8 kilometers from their catchment area school.
