DEO reopens to the public

The District Education Office (DEO) is now open to the public Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm. 

The DEO will be closed daily during the following times: 

  • 10:15am to 10:30am
  • 12:30pm to 1:30pm
  • 2:15pm to 2:30pm 
     

Visitors are not permitted to enter the building if they have any symptoms of illness, have travelled internationally within 14 days, or have been directed by public health to self-isolate.

The DEO is located at 22225 Brown Avenue, Maple Ridge. 

August 17, 2020: K-12 operational guidelines set requirements for masks

Ministry of Education News Release

School districts have received updated operational guidelines to help ensure a consistent provincewide approach to keep schools safe for all students, teachers and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the updated health and safety guidelines, masks will be required for staff, middle and secondary students in high traffic areas such as buses and in common areas such as hallways, or anytime outside of their learning group whenever physical distancing cannot be maintained. (more…)

August 12, 2020: Orientation week ensures a safe, ready and welcome return to school

Ministry of Education News Release

To ensure schools are ready to welcome students into classrooms for the week of Sept. 8-11, 2020, there will be a gradual restart to allow extra time to orient students and staff on the new health and safety measures in place.

“Schools are going to look different in September,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Education. “Staff, students and parents need time to get familiar with all the new health and safety procedures that are designed to keep them safe and confident in their school settings.” (more…)

The Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday that our province will be moving to modified Stage 2 of B.C.’s Education Restart Plan, and safely bringing K-12 students back to class full time for September 2020. Thank you for working with our staff as we reorganized to limit in-class instruction in March, moved quickly to provide remote learning opportunities and then opened up our schools again for limited in-school instruction in June. I know that the past several months have been challenging for our families, for our staff and for the province as a whole.

Dear families,

Current events in Canada and the United States remind us of the work that must be done to make our society and our school district open, safe, inclusive and responsive – places where all can learn, thrive and lead dignified lives. The death of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests include an unparalleled and broad cross-section of American and Canadian citizens who have, with peaceful protest, signaled the need for change. One of the most heartening observations that I make of the protests is the overwhelming involvement of young people, who have delivered a compelling message: the time for quiet support is now past.
