All schools will be closed today, December 17, 2025. The majority of our school buildings are currently without power, which has left our sites without heat or internal lighting. At many locations, the security shutters cannot be raised without power, further limiting visibility and access to natural light within the classrooms. In 2016/17, Bethany Fruendt was a Grade 12 student at Garibaldi Secondary. She has shown tremendous leadership ability within the student action team, Rebels For A Cause, at the school. As a member of Rebels For A Cause, she has helped plan and supervise various campaigns to raise donations to build a school and a well in Ecuador, along with raising awareness about social issues that affect both our school community and the world at large.
Over the past two years, Bethany has also taken on a leadership role in helping to organize events to foster community building within the school, often remaining late into the evening in order to do so. Bethany has demonstrated resourcefulness, kindness, and above all, a great level of maturity. Perhaps her greatest quality is her friendly and thoughtful nature.
About Leaders of Tomorrow
The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.
The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2016/17 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.
Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2017 Leaders of Tomorrow.
