#FridayReads: Celebrate Lunar New Year with Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas

Hammond Elementary teacher-librarian Kristen Power recommends Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas by Natasha Yim for the Lunar New Year.

Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas by Natasha Yim, illustrated by Grace Zong, is a retelling of Goldilocks and the Three Bears that offers an accessible and engaging celebration of some Lunar New Year traditions.

Although it’s a retelling of a familiar tale, Goldy Luck’s journey varies from the original in a captivating way through its use of foods like turnip cakes and congee, and customs like giving lucky red envelopes. Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas also explores themes of friendship and making amends.

The vibrant illustrations are a lot of fun, and there are many ways to use this story in meaningful discussions, both at home and in the classroom.

Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas is available in SD42 libraries.
