Feb. 18, 2022: Health and Safety Update for families from Superintendent Dhillon

February 22, 2022 9:28 AM

Dear families,

The Ministry of Education announced this week that the additional COVID-19 prevention measures put in place for K-12 schools starting in January 2022 will be lifted at midnight on Friday, February 18. The changes mean a return to the health protocols that were in place prior to winter break outlined in the Provincial COVID-19 Communicable Disease Guidelines for K-12 Settings.

With the additional measures being lifted, certain school activities, including student gatherings, may gradually resume. Guidelines for visitors to schools and spectators at sporting events are also now reinstated as set out in the Provincial COVID-19 Communicable Disease Guidelines for K-12 Settings. Requirements for visitors/spectators include ensuring that visitors sign-in and declare they have passed the health assessment prior to entry. Phone numbers and contact information will be kept for 45 days. Parents can expect further communication on visitor procedures at your child’s school from the school principal.

It is important to note that while some prevention measures have been lifted, many health protocols are still in place. Schools will continue to emphasize proper hand hygiene, wearing masks in accordance with the Provincial Health Officer Order on Face Coverings, and daily health checks. Please ensure that you continue conducting a daily health check with your child(ren) before sending them to school.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Harry Dhillon
Superintendent of Schools
