2018 Leaders of Tomorrow: Evan Murphy – Alexander Robinson

The moment you meet Evan Murphy, you know he’s destined for greatness. A Grade 7 Alexander Robinson (AR) during the 2017-18 school year, Evan  is known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail. While he excels in all subject areas, his favourite is mathematics; he enjoys being challenged.

Evan is actively involved in his school and his community. He is a member of ARs Got Talent – a monthly showcase of student talent. Here, he has emceed, performed dance routines and piano solos, and created and showcased a video for Pink Shirt Day. Evan is continually trying to recruit new members to showcase their skills and abilities.

Evan is a member of ARs ME to WE program where he is actively raising resources locally for organizations such as Cythera House, and internationally in Sierra Leone. He belongs to Kindness Club where he helps younger children realize the large impact of small acts of kindness. He continually looks out for his fellow students, helping where help is needed; whether that be assisting a fellow classmate with a math problem, or helping them make good choices.

Evan enjoys playing on the AR basketball team and plays soccer in the alternate season. He enjoys hip hop dance. He will be in Level 6 in his piano lessons and he is a member of Showstoppers. He has, in the past, enjoyed both skating and swimming lessons.

Evan is looking forward to the challenges and experiences that wait for him in high school. He is excited to meet new teachers for each subject taught. He is looking forward to new clubs and organizations that will expand his horizons – specifically, drama, book club, track and field, basketball, and soccer. He is excited about finding his direction as he takes one more step towards university where he can focus on sciences and explore the possibilities that exist there. He wants to explore the sciences – he’s currently interested in space, or paleontology. As he continues to absorb his education, I am sure that Evan will find success in whatever path he chooses. AR is going to miss him.

About Leaders of Tomorrow

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.

The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2017/18 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2018 Leaders of Tomorrow.
