2016 Leaders of Tomorrow: Kevin Maars – Pitt Meadows Secondary

During the 2015-16 school year, Kevin Maars was a Grade 10 student at Pitt Meadows Secondary. Kevin is a responsible, caring, dedicated student who strives to make a difference in his school community. Kevin demonstrates leadership both at the school and district level. Kevin is passionate about both school and district issues. Specifically, he created a survey for students at PMSS and honoured student voice by presenting the results to the school board.

Kevin takes initiative at PMSS by volunteering this time to assist with welcoming new students and creating activities that contribute to creating a positive culture at PMSS. His volunteerism extends beyond his school. Kevin co-organized a supply drive to the Salvation Army, assisted with Remembrance Day activities for the city of Pitt Meadows and participated in a fundraiser for the BC Lung Association.

He is a member of both the PMSS student council and the District Student Advisory Council. Kevin is enthusiastic about growing his leadership skills and participated in the Ridge Meadows Youth Impact Summit. In addition, will be traveling to Ottawa for Encounters with Canada.

Outside of school, you will find Kevin working at the local Cineplex Odeon where his friendly smile welcomes customers. His future aspirations include pursuing a career in media and continuing to volunteer to make a difference in his community.

The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2015/16 school year – there are many others  who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2016 Leaders of Tomorrow.
