Strong Start centres do not operate on days that their host schools are closed, for example on Pro-D/Non-instructional Days, Altered Calendar Days, Stat Holidays, Christmas, Spring and Summer Break.
In the event of facilitator absence/illness, StrongStart Centres may be closed. Please refer to the information below for updates regarding hours of operation for each Centre. Information regarding any absences will be updated daily by 8:10 a.m.
Registration for the 2018-19 school year:
Registration opens September 6th, 2018 at all StrongStart Centres (except Garibaldi Secondary School StrongStart, which opens Monday, September 17) during their regular operating times. Children and their families can start attending September 10th.
Parents can register in person at the StrongStart Centre on the first day they wish to attend. Registration is on a continual intake basis during the school year. Online pre-registration is no longer required.
Please note: In addition to completing a registration form, you must also provide proof of age documentation. Acceptable proof of age: birth certificate, passport or visa, permanent resident card, or other documents issued by Immigration Canada.
BC Health Care Cards are NOT considered identification for verification purposes.
StrongStart is a free program for parents with children aged infant to five years old.
Parents and caregivers attending StrongStart BC will participate with their children in organized sessions like story time and circle time.
They will also be able to participate in free play, arts, early literacy, and information sharing, and will help choose and serve healthy snacks.
Parents and caregivers are likely to discover new ways to support their children’s learning at home, and may make valuable connections with others attending the centre.
The benefits of StrongStart include: increasing children’s exposure to literacy and play; providing information about parenting and community resources; providing a fun and healthy learning environment that benefits the whole family; and recognizing parents as their children’s first and most important teacher.

* Blue Mountain Strong Start Centre Relocation: Due to the need to accommodate ongoing elementary enrolment growth both in the Blue Mountain catchment and more broadly in the East Capital Zone of the district, the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District has moved the StrongStart Centre previously at Blue Mountain Elementary to Garibaldi Secondary school. The move will come into effect September 1, 2018.
The school district highly values the early learning programming support that our Strong Start program provides to the Blue Mountain community and surrounding communities, and is therefore pleased to be able to retain this program in the neighbourhood it is intended to serve.
