School District No. 42, with financial support from the Government of British Columbia, offers StrongStart Learning Centres at eight elementary schools.

Programs run Monday to Friday  (see below for specific times at the various locations). Families are welcome to drop in at whatever time meets their needs. StrongStart Centres follow the regular school calendar.      (Please note: some centres are closed late November/early December – see dates below under “For more information about StrongStart)

Please note that all StrongStart sites will continue to be open at their usual times during the school’s kindergarten to Grade 7 student-involved conference days. Our StrongStart programs will welcome, as usual, children from ages 0 to pre-kindergarten and their parents/caregivers on these days.

What is StrongStart?

StrongStart is a free program for parents with children aged infant to five years old.

Parents and caregivers attending StrongStart BC will participate with their children in organized sessions like story time and circle time.

They will also be able to participate in free play, arts, early literacy, and information sharing, and will help choose and serve healthy snacks.

Parents and caregivers are likely to discover new ways to support their children’s learning at home, and may make valuable connections with others attending the centre.

What are the benefits of StrongStart?

The benefits of StrongStart include: increasing children’s exposure to literacy and play; providing information about parenting and community resources; providing a fun and healthy learning environment that benefits the whole family; and recognizing parents as their children’s first and most important teacher.

* Blue Mountain Strong Start Centre Relocation: Due to the need to accommodate ongoing elementary enrolment growth both in the Blue Mountain catchment and more broadly in the East Capital Zone of the district, the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District has moved the StrongStart Centre previously at Blue Mountain Elementary to Garibaldi Secondary school. The move came into effect September 1, 2018.

The school district highly values the early learning programming support that our Strong Start program provides to the Blue Mountain community and surrounding communities, and is therefore pleased to be able to retain this program in the neighbourhood it is intended to serve.
