Welcome
The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) is exploring potential secondary school schedule changes informed by feedback from staff, student, and families.
Currently, all SD42 secondary schools follow a linear schedule, with students taking up to eight classes across the full school year. Moving forward, some schools may continue with this model, while others may transition to a semester schedule, where students take up to four classes per semester, with two semesters in a school year.
Decisions about schedule models will be made on a school-by-school basis, informed by survey input and guiding considerations. You can learn more about the engagement framework and see a comparison of linear and semester schedules at: sd42.ca/secondary-scheduling-engagement
Any approved changes would begin in the 2026/27 school year.

Secondary School Flex Instructional Time
A Flex block is a scheduled period during the school day that provides students with flexible time to engage in activities that support their academic success and personal growth. Students may use this time to:
Receive extra help or tutoring from teachers
Work on assignments or group projects
Participate in enrichment activities or clubs
Explore areas of interest beyond the standard curriculum
Engage in self-directed learning or independent study
The goal of the Flex block is to provide students with autonomy in their learning while ensuring they have the support and resources they need to succeed.
