Environmental school proposal focuses on place-based education

School District No. 42 is working in partnership with SFU and the community to develop an Environmental School. Inquiry, imagination, sustainability, inclusion, and place-based education are key concepts behind the Environmental School's philosophy and teaching/learning.

The Vision

children learning to understand, love, and care for the places where they live - one where connections to place make education richer, deeper, and more meaningful for all

  • Children continually exploring the natural world in the company of scientists, community activists, and Elders
  • Researchers working side by side with teachers and students to figure out how best to help children learn
  • Students' work regularly presented to district planners, environmental groups, and local governmentThe provincial curriculum transformed into an integrated learning experiences through imagination, community, and place
