The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District is proud to offer 2018 summer learning opportunities at both the elementary and the secondary level from July to August. See our listings below to explore these options, or visit the Continuing Education website (http://ce.sd42.ca) for more information.

Secondary Summer Learning 2018

First day of classes: Wednesday, July 4 ( 8:00 am to 1:30 pm)
Last day of classes: Wednesday July 25
Report Card Pick-up: Thursday July 26 at Thomas Haney
*After July 26, report cards are available at Riverside Centre (20575 Thorne Avenue)

August Provincial Exam Schedule (location Thomas Haney Secondary):

August 2 English 12 (9:00 am to 11:00 am)
August 3 Communications 12 (9:00 am to 11:00 am)

  • Arrive 30 minutes before the start time
  • Bring photo ID and your PEN number (located on your report card)

Elementary Summer Learning 2018

First day of classes: Wednesday July 4 
Last day of classes: Friday July 20
Report Card Pick-up: Friday July 20 from your zone teacher
*After July 20, report cards are available at Riverside Centre (20575 Thorne Avenue)
**Attendance is mandatory for the entire program

Grade 7 Summer Learning 2018

First day of classes: Wednesday July 4
Last day of classes: Tuesday July 17
Report Card Pick-up: Tuesday July 17th  from your teacher
*After July 17, report cards are available at Riverside Centre (20575 Thorne Avenue)
**Attendance is mandatory for the entire program

K-6 Elementary Summer Learning 2018
Wednesday, July 4 to Friday, July 20, 2018

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District is once again offering a summer learning opportunity for elementary aged students (grades K-6) currently attending our schools. (A separate summer learning program is available for children in Grade 7 transitioning to Grade 8.) Our mission is to provide engaging learning opportunities that will support your child’s long-term development and inspire your child to reach his or her full potential.  

Program at a glance:

Our Elementary Summer Learning 2018 Program will follow elements of  the provincial curriculum. The emphasis in each of the programs (grades K-3 and grades 4-6) will be on providing additional experiences in each of the grade areas. Textbooks and worksheets will be set aside as children engage in experiential learning and hands-on activities.

Day Camps 2018
Day camps for elementary students in summer school

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District in partnership with Pitt Meadows Parks & Recreation and Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation and Culture is offering afternoon day camps for students registered in summer school. The camps will run primarily outdoors and will focus on physical activity, movement, play and games. These camps will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Grade 7 Summer Learning 2018
Wednesday, July 4 to Tuesday, July 17

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District is offering three summer learning programs for all current Grade 7 students. The programs run from July 4 to July 17, 2018 at Thomas Haney Secondary School.

Students can choose ONE of the following three program options:

Program 1: Robotics; Woodworking; Metal Shop*
Program 2: Theatre Sports
Program 3: Coding & Video Game Design
The programs will offer students an opportunity to build transferable life skills that will benefit them with their transition to high school and beyond.

Program at a glance:

Location: Thomas Haney Secondary School

Date: Wednesday July 4 – July 17, 2018

Times: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm daily

Cost: $30 refundable placeholder fee (*Program 1 only: add $30 material costs for a take home project)

International Student Program Fee: $400.00

($30.00 cancellation fee prior to July 4, 2018 and non-refundable thereafter)

Grade 7 to Grade 8 Transition Summer Learning 2018 – Student/Parent Agreement

Upon registration and payment parent and student understand the following:

  1. Daily attendance is mandatory for the entirety of the program.
  2. The $30.00 student placement fee will be returned upon successful completion of the program. This includes mandatory attendance for the full program. Placement fee returns will be processed at the end of August.
  3. For Program 1, payment for material costs are non-refundable as items are purchased based on student commitment to attend the program.
  4. Students understand that all school rules apply.

Secondary Summer Learning 2018 - Full Credit Courses ***Online registration extended until June 27
Wednesday, July 4 to Wednesday, July 25, 2018

Get ahead of your credits or improve your GPA! The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District is offering Summer Learning full credit courses at Thomas Haney Secondary School starting July 4, 2018.

The courses offered are for full credit in Grades 10, 11 and 12 in a variety of academic subject areas.

Program information at a glance:

Location: Thomas Haney Secondary School (THSS)

Dates: July 4 – 25 

Time: 8:00 am to 1:30 pm daily 

Attendance requirement: Daily attendance from the start of the course is mandatory due to the shortened program dates. 

Please note: International student course fee $600.00 (payable at Riverside Centre, 20575 Thorne Avenue, prior to start of course). There will be no refund after course starts on July 4. A $40 fee will charged if the student withdraws before June 27, 2018.

As per the Ministry of Education guidelines, June 2018 graduates and adult students (19+) are no longer eligible to register for Secondary Summer Learning courses.

Online Secondary Summer Learning 2018
Wednesday, May 2 to Wednesday, July 25, 2018

The Connected Learning Community (SD42 CLC) is offering a fast track online learning option for students. Visit http://clc.sd42.ca to view course options for Grades 10, 11 and 12.

Online Registration ONLY through the CLC website: http://clc.sd42.ca/

  • Online registration OPENS Tuesday, April 3, 2018. You must use the Summer Learning Registration form for this program.
  • Online registration CLOSES Friday, April 13, 2018.
  • Courses begin May 2, 2018. Registered students will receive an email with additional information.
  • Completion expected July 25, 2018. Students will receive final report cards by email.
     

International course fees are $600.00 per course, payable at Riverside Centre prior to enrolment confirmation.

 

Attention June 2018 Graduates:

As per the Ministry of Education guidelines, you are not eligible to enrol in the July 2018 Summer Learning program offered at Thomas Haney.

This online program is the only opportunity you will have before the end of the school year to upgrade a course/mark or take an additional course to add to your transcript. Be sure to discuss this with your school counselor.
