Introduction

Wireless Onboarding

Need help connecting your wireless device? If the guides below don’t help, please submit a HelpDesk ticket or contact our IT HelpDesk at 604.466.6248. We can offer support with:

Other devices are supported but School District No. 42 does not currently have guides available for them. Our recommendation is to use one of the sections below and translate as necessary, as the process will be very similar.

Windows

(Note: your view may change slightly depending on exact version of your browser.)

  1. Open the list of available wireless networks.

  2. Find ‘SD42-Registration’ in the list, click on it and then click connect.

  3. Open a web browser such as Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer and enter ‘wifi.sd42.ca’ in the address bar.

  4. Read and accept the acceptable use policy, then click start.

  5. Click on Username/Password to use your SD42 account to login and connect to the wireless network.

    Guest access via SMS is also available, and can be accessed by clicking here.

  6. Enter your SD42 username and password and then click continue.

    Staff: Firstname_Lastname Students: Student Number

  7. Download the appropriate wizard for your operating system, in this case Windows.

  8. Accept the download, and run the application when it finishes.

  9. When prompted install the certificate.

  10. Click Done to exit the wizard.

Mac OS
  1. Connect to the ‘SD42-Registration’ wireless network.

  2. Open Safari and if it does not automatically direct you to the site, navigate to ‘wifi.sd42.ca’.

  3. Accept the Terms & Conditions and click next.

  4. For Staff/Students click ‘Username/Password’.

    Guest access via SMS is also available, and can be accessed by clicking here.

  5. Enter your SD42 username and password, then click ‘Continue’.

    Staff Username: Firstname_Lastname

    Student Username: Student Number

  6. Click ‘Download’.

  7. Click ‘Continue’ to proceed with the profile install.

  8. Click ‘Install’ to install the required certificate.

  9. Enter the computer admin credentials for your device.

  10. Verify that you are connected to the SD42-WLAN wireless network. If you aren’t click on it to connect.

iPhone

If you are having trouble with connecting to ‘SD42-Registration’ or otherwise need to remove the SD42 wireless profile from your device you follow these steps: Steps to remove profile.

  1. From your start screen, open the ‘Settings’ app.

  2. In Settings, press on Wi-Fi.

  3. Find ‘SD42-Registration’ in the wireless list and press on it.

  4. Once you see that you are connected to the ‘SD42-Registration’ wireless network, press your home button to return to the home screen.

  5. Open the ‘Safari’ app.

  6. Browse to ‘wifi.sd42.ca’

  7. Accept the Terms & Conditions, and then press ‘Start’.

  8. For staff/students press on Username/Password.

  9. Enter your SD42 username and password, then press ‘Continue’.

    Staff Username: Firstname_Lastname

    Student Username: Student Number

  10. Press on ‘Install’.

  11. Enter your phone pin code to allow the installation.

    If you do not have a pin code set on your phone you will not see this screen.

  12. Press on ‘Install’ when prompted to install the root certificate.

  13. Press on ‘Install’ to verify you want to install the certificate.

  14. Press on ‘Done’ to exit out of the profile installer.

  15. Press your home button to return to the home screen.

  16. Open the ‘Settings’ app.

  17. If ‘SD42-WLAN’ is not your currently connected network, press on it in the list.

  18. Once you see that you are connected to ‘SD42-WLAN’ you’re done!

Android

If you are having troubles with the process below see our guide on manually connecting here.

  1. Enable ‘Unknown Sources’ by going to Settings -> Security (This can be unchecked at the end of the onboarding process. Further you can skip this step and steps 7+8 if you pre-download the XpressConnect by Cloudpath Networks Inc from the Google Play Store over your cellular data plan or home wireless.)
  2. Connect phone to ‘SD42-Registration’ wireless network
  3. Open Chrome or other browser and navigate to wifi.sd42.ca
  4. Accept EULA
  5. Choose Username/Password if you have an SD42 account, otherwise choose guest. (See this link if you require help with the guest process.)
  6. Enter appropriate information to login (either SMS code or username/password)
  7. Click on Step 1 to install the app and choose “Local Download”
  8. Once downloaded run the download to install it.
  9. With the app installed click on Step 2 to configure your device.
  10. Follow the prompts in the app to finish the installation.
