Full day kindergarten will be available to all eligible B.C. students across the province by September 2011.
The importance of early childhood development and its effects on the later stages of life have been clearly documented by research and by major organizations around the world. Significant research findings indicate that children who have participated in quality full day kindergarten opportunities, experience positive outcomes in all areas of development including:
- Aesthetic and Artistic
- Social and Emotional
- Physical and Well-Being
- Intellectual and Social Responsibility
Children come to school curious about the world around them. Active participation in learning experiences at school capitalizes on children’s natural desire to inquire and explore their world. The benefits of a quality full day kindergarten program are many. Children learn through play and a full day program provides children and teachers the gift of time. Time to explore, discover, manipulate and to develop deeper understandings of the concepts offered.
Full day kindergarten is another step towards building a strong foundation for lifelong learning, in a nurturing, play-based environment.
