SD42 students set to showcase trades and tech skills at provincials

Eight students from Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District No. 42 will compete at Skills Canada BC’s 2019 Provincial Competition on April 17 at the Tradex in Abbotsford.

This year’s event includes 58 competition categories – everything from aerospace and automotive to baking and robotics, and more – and over 600 competitors from across BC.

Students qualified for the provincial competition by winning gold at regionals. Last year six SD42 students earned podium spots at the 2018 provincials.

Gold-medal winners at this year’s provincial championship will earn a trip to the national competition from May 28-29 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“By partnering with several post-secondary institutions and trades training organizations, SD42 is committed to providing industry leading technical training for our students,” said Brad Dingler, secondary school apprenticeship and trades co-ordinator.
“These partnerships have, year after year, helped to produce gold, silver and bronze medal winners at provincial and national skill competitions.”
