Westview students compete at Microsoft world championships

SD42’s Connor Grant and Cassandra O’Callaghan are having a summer to remember.

The Westview Secondary students, who both attend the school’s Microsoft Academy, took a trip to Florida to compete at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championships in Orlando from August 7-10.

Grant and O’Callaghan earned the opportunity to compete against peers from around the globe after finishing tops in their categories at the Microsoft Office Specialist National Championship.

At the Canadian competition, Grant earned top test scores in Microsoft Word 2013 and O’Callaghan had the best score in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013.

CCI Learning sponsored the students’ all-expenses paid trip to Orlando to compete in the world championships.

SD42 students can enrol in the Microsoft IT Academy (ITA) program at Westview Secondary, Samuel Roberts Technical Secondary and Thomas Haney Secondary.

At last year’s Microsoft world championships in Texas three Westview students – Nash Taylor, Phillip McBride and Trevor Dean – placed in the Top 5, with Taylor earning silver.
