Reminisce and Record Your Family History
Have you ever been transported back to a particular time and place on the opening notes of a song? Has an object ever reminded you of a long ago relative? Sights, sounds, and artifacts can all trigger memories that in turn lead to remembering stories of one's past. This is the theory behind reminisce kits, which contain select memorabilia intended to stimulate remembering. Elders, their kids and grandkids are invited to come and learn about reminisce kits, how to use them, and how to make your own. Then share some of your own stories with your family members. This interactive workshop - co-hosted by Ridge Meadows Seniors Society, MRPM Seniors Network, and the Literacy Committee - is suitable for multigenerational family groups as well as professionals who work with seniors.
Location: Social Activity Room, Ridge Meadows Seniors Activity Centre, 12150 - 224 Street, Maple Ridge
Free but pre-registration required: 604 466 8254 or coordinator@communityliteracy.ca

2011 Student Safety Video Contest
"Home in One Piece": WorkSafeBC's 7th Annual Video Contest
Aspiring student filmmakers are encouraged to create a short video based around this year's theme, Home in one piece: What motivates you, your friends, or your family to come home safely from work?
Participants don't need to be enrolled in a video class or even have an AV department at their school. The contest is open to all students grades 8-12, as long as they have a teacher sponsor to provide supervision and sign off on their entry form. Winning entries will receive cash prizes, and we've added a new people's choice award this year.
The deadline is April 13, 2012, but we will be posting contest entries throughout the year, as they are submitted. For more information, go to http://www2.worksafebc.com/enews/YW/111101/111101.htm
Pitt Meadows Community Association (PMCA)
The PMCA as a non-profit, non-partisan group, will join hands with community partners, offering public events that capture a community atmosphere and a sense of neighbourhood, advancing education by organizing community lectures and facilitating effective dialogue and interaction between all interested parties.
We are planning monthly events that are free or low-cost for families in the area. Please check our website at www.pmcaonline.com to find out what is happening.
